5 Questions Couples Always Ask About Wedding Dance Lessons

If you've never taken a dance lesson before, you're not alone! Most of our couples start their first lesson with a lot of questions and maybe a few nerves. Here are the answers to the five questions I hear most often.

"What if we have two left feet?"

Perfect! That's actually who we work with the most. You don't need any dance experience to have an amazing first dance. Our job is to teach you in a way that's fun, relaxed, and easy to follow. You'll be surprised how quickly your confidence grows and what you're able to accomplish!

"When should we start lessons?"

Some say, "The sooner, the better." We say it depends on the couple! If you know that you and your fiancé are going to practice, then we think you should start early, beginning about 3–6 months before your wedding. However, if you know, that is not something you can be consistent with, we don't want you to waste your money so starting about two months before your wedding would be best!

While starting early gives you plenty of time to learn comfortably without feeling rushed. It also leaves room for busy schedules, vacations, or unexpected life events. After lessons with us, a few minutes of practice more frequently beats a 30 minute repetitive uncomfortable full blown rehearsal.

"How many lessons will we need?"

We are unlike most other dance instructors, trying to sell you a ton of lessons. Most of our couples are able to achieve a comfortable fun piece in 2 lessons that are 90 minutes each. We call this our "basic choreographed package". We have found having an order to the steps helps streamline the learning process.

"What should we wear to our lessons?"

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. There is NO NEED to take an hour long lesson in a heel! For shoes, avoid anything with heavy tread, since they can stick to the floor. As your wedding gets closer, it's helpful to practice in shoes that are similar in height and style to what you'll wear on your big day. Make sure you plan to wear the right size heel/flat at the reception for your dress if you are changing shoes.

5. "Is it really worth taking lessons?"

Abso-freakin-lutely! Our clients say so anyway!!!

"Christen choreographed two of my Mother & Son dances, and it could not have been more fun! She's a true professional, and we really felt like dancers after just one lesson. The videos she took during the lessons made practicing easy which gave us confidence on the big day. I will forever treasure our dances thanks to In Home Dance Lessons and Christen!" - Doreen K

Wedding dance lessons are about much more than choreography. They give you dedicated time together during the busy wedding planning process, help calm first-dance nerves, and create a moment you'll remember long after the music ends.

The goal isn't perfection. It's confidence, connection, and having fun together.

Your first dance should feel like you. With a little preparation, you'll spend less time worrying about your feet and more time soaking in one of the most unforgettable moments of your wedding day.

A bonus tip: Don't wait until the last month before your wedding. Couples who start early almost always enjoy the process more, retain the choreography better, and feel much more relaxed when it's finally time to step onto the dance floor.
